IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

Good Morning Virginia Beach!

If this weekend feels a little bittersweet, you are probably not alone. For many families, school starts next week, but there are still plenty of reasons to enjoy these last few days of summer, along with some local stories and happenings that are worth a scroll.

Let’s get into it!

THE WEEKLY SCOOP

A Helpful Resource for Hampton Roads Military Families With Pets

With so many military families in Hampton Roads, this is one of those resources that feels especially worth sharing.

Operation Foster connects military members with volunteers who can temporarily care for their pets while they are deployed or away for treatment. One sailor stationed at Naval Station Norfolk found himself needing help with his dog Lola after receiving only about two weeks’ notice before deployment. He was matched with a foster family in just two days.

The program has now:

  • Fostered and reunited more than 3,500 pets

  • Helped military families in all 50 states

  • Found temporary homes for dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles and even a horse

  • Helped both active-duty service members and veterans

For military pet owners who may not have family nearby or another option for long-term care, this could be a really helpful resource to know about.

Mr. Beast Sponsored Eight Dreams for Local Kids Battling Cancer

A Virginia Beach nonprofit that has been quietly making dreams come true for young cancer patients got some major help from one of the biggest creators in the world.

MrBeast sponsored eight dreams through Toby’s Dream, a local nonprofit that has helped 650 young cancer patients over the past 16 years.

One of those kids was 11-year-old Raiden Ibaldez, who spent 212 days in the hospital battling leukemia and is now in remission. His wish took his family to Florida, where they visited Kennedy Space Center and SpaceX, went to Disney World and watched the filming of a MrBeast video.

For a smaller local organization, having MrBeast fund eight dreams at once is a pretty incredible boost and means eight Hampton Roads families got experiences they’ll never forget.

FEATURED EVENT

Come for Dinner, Leave With New Local Connections

Meeting new people as an adult can be awkward, but the Hampton Roads Dinner Club makes it surprisingly easy and a lot more fun.

The people were lively and we plan to meet again .

August Attendee

Here's how it works:
You take a short quiz, reserve your seat and get matched with five other locals based on your interests and personality. The Dinner Club chooses the restaurant, organizes the table and handles the details. You simply show up, order what you want and enjoy dinner with a group of people you may never have met otherwise.

This is not a formal networking event or a room full of forced introductions. It is six locals around one table, trying a local restaurant, sharing good conversation and seeing where the night goes.

The next Hampton Roads Dinner Club will be held Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30pm in Virginia Beach. The restaurant remains a surprise until closer to the dinner, which is part of the fun.

  • Date: Wednesday, Sept 16

  • Time: 6:30pm

  • Location: A surprise Virginia Beach restaurant

  • Group Size: Six people per table

  • How to Join: Take the matching quiz and reserve your seat
