TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Virginia Beach!

This week at VB Living, we’re kicking off something we’re incredibly excited about, a new campaign designed to elevate and spotlight women-owned businesses across our community. It’s all about visibility, connection, and celebrating the amazing entrepreneurs who make VB thrive. More details coming soon!

Here’s what else is happening around Hampton Roads:

• A major winter storm could bring heavy snow and blizzard-like conditions
• Local oyster farmers are asking the community to help by eating more oysters
• Carnival just announced a transatlantic cruise departing from Norfolk

And more! Let’s get into it.

THE WEEKLY SCOOP

🌨️ Last Week Was Practice. This Weekend’s the Main Event.

Disclaimer: We’re only reporting it, not manifesting it (promise). Don’t shoot the messenger… we’re just sharing what the weather experts are saying as of 1/29.

Hampton Roads is bracing for a potentially major winter storm, with at least 4 inches of snow likely across most of the region and some areas possibly seeing 8–10 inches or more. The National Weather Service says Virginia Beach and Norfolk could experience blizzard-like conditions Saturday night into early Sunday, fueled by strong winds up to 59 mph along the coast.

Norfolk alone has a 93% chance of receiving 4+ inches, with a small but real chance of seeing a full foot of snow. The storm is expected to bring dry, powdery snow, dangerously cold wind chills near zero, and even possible tidal flooding that could freeze on roads in coastal areas.

Bottom line: this could be one of the most impactful winter storms Hampton Roads has seen in years.

Something Big Is Coming For Women-Owned Businesses In Virginia Beach

We’re creating a new way to celebrate, spotlight, and connect incredible women entrepreneurs across VB, giving them more visibility, stronger community support, and access to thousands of local residents who want to shop and support local.

Think:
• A featured local spotlight experience (both digital + in print)
• A growing community of women-owned businesses
• And a special launch celebration event coming soon

This is about elevating women in business, building meaningful connections, and putting local brands in front of the community in a powerful way.

More details coming soon… but trust us, you’re going to want in.

🦪 Virginia’s Oyster Industry Needs Our Help (And It’s Delicious to Do!)

Local oyster farmers are facing an unexpected challenge this winter, and the VB community can make a real difference.

Here’s what’s going on:

• Virginia is experiencing an oyster glut, meaning there’s more supply than demand
• Many oyster harvesters are only able to work 1–2 days a week right now
• Shucking houses are slowing down too, which impacts workers’ paychecks
• This affects fishermen, families, and local restaurants across our region

Here’s the easy (and tasty) way to help:

• Order shucked oysters
• Try oyster stew, fried oysters, or oyster sandwiches
• Ask for Virginia oysters when you’re out to eat

Supporting one oyster dish helps the entire local seafood chain.

A quick reminder from our friends at Elevated Plumbing Design

With this cold coming up, keep all bathroom and utility room doors open, and open up the cabinet doors as well. These rooms need circulation during extremely freezing temperatures.

If you have any fixtures on an outside wall, let those faucets run at a trickle to help keep the water lines from freezing. If you notice that you don’t have water flowing from one faucet or another, open those faucets wide and leave them that way to help reestablish flow.

A space heater or a lamp, safely placed in an outdoor utility closet, can help keep a washing machine or water heater from freezing up.

Be safe, Hampton Roads!
